It’s the times there is no Arthur that Merlin… Looses himself. The times Arthur died didn’t hardly even register to Merlin anymore because that is how it ended the first time. Or if there was, they never managed to cross paths.
Too many times, in far too many lives, there was no Arthur.
Merlin knows he is going to have to get up soon. Things really have gone south, haven’t they? Wow, thinking the early years were good times. A reminder of the times when things were good before it went to shit. It used to make him bitter but lately, it’s been a small comfort. Beds have gotten so much more comfortable since then but every time, it’s this bed. Why it was the bed from his room with Gaius, he’s never understood. And Merlin just groaned and pulled the sheet over his head. The cave greeted him with its usual crystal covered sparkling glory. Getting older, dying, and waking back up in the same damn cave at the same age when it started the first time. Watching the world fall apart, remake itself, and then fall apart again.
